Aurelio Settimo (Piedmont)
If you haven't tasted the wines of Aurelio Settimo, you owe it to yourself to do so. These renowned wines are some of the finest examples of traditional Barolo being made today. Owning prized vineyards in La Morra, much of which is in the Rocche dell'Annunziata Cru, Aurelio Settimo wines are rich and full, but elegant, fragrant and approachable at the same time. The wines of this tiny estate have been wowing the wine press for years.
Following the death of Aurelio in 2007, his daughter, Tiziana, has taken over production and has adhered to the same philosophy: focus on quality while keeping with tradition. And what wonderful tradition it is! The Barolo is treated to long fermentations on the skins and is aged in large oak casks holding between 2,500 and 3,500 liters. The result is beautiful, long-lived wines. Aurelio Settimo makes Barolo DOCG, its cru Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata, Langhe Nebbiolo (from younger vines in their Barolo vineyards), and a fantastic Dolcetto. Total production is only about 40,000 bottles, so these wines are always in short supply. Contact us to taste these wines. Click here for recent awards and accolades. |
