The ancient estate of Sangervasio lies west of Florence, 15 miles from the sea. For the last half century, the estate has been owned by the Tommasini family who is making evocative, delicious Tuscan wines in these rolling hills.
The Sangervasio vineyards range from 500 to 650 feet above sea level and have a dry Mediterranean climate, with warm days, cool nights and pleasant breezes from the sea. What sets the Sangervasio vineyards apart, however, are the soils rich in fossilized shells, some as big as oysters, which give the wines a lightness and freshness.
The estate's Sangiovese-based wines express traditional Tuscan refinement and sophistication. They're the heart and soul of the family's wines. However, Luca Tommasini also plants international varieties, both white and red, crafting rich, delicious wines that still retail a definite Italian personality.
The estate has been certified organic for over 20 years and recently has moved to biodynamic farming employing natural fermentations to allow the true complexity of the wines to take center stage. These are honest, delicious and terroir-driven wines that shouldn’t be missed!
